Information

The British Music Experience is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of popular music in Britain. The exhibition features interactive exhibits that show the influence of popular music on British culture.

I worked with Studiosimple and Land Design Studio to develop 3 interactive installations for this exhibition.

The British Music Experience was originally located at the O2 in London and will re-open at the Cunard Building in Liverpool in March 2017.

Dance the Decades

The Dance the Decades interactive teaches visitors the basic moves of 12 dance crazes. Visitors are then recorded and get the chance to star in their own dance movie, which they can playback on a holographic stage. Using their RFID ticket, visitors can also view the video on the BME website when they get home.

Rock Galaxy

Rock Galaxy is an interactive that spreads across three time zones. By touching real vinyl discs, users can select from 18 rock genres each containing videos and information on 5 selected tracks. The user’s selected genre is highlighted in a generative, audio-reactive and typographic ceiling projection, which also provides an ambient soundtrack to the middle timezone.

The Great Divide

Located in the 80s time zone, this interactive installation shows how the political and economic divide during the Thatcher years were reflected in the music and the rise of the music video during that decade. Using a rotary interface, visitors can scroll through a time tunnel of news events and watch opposing music video responses to each of the events.
